Sesame Seed Ball # Onde-Onde

What did you cook today ??

I made a Sesame seed ball today. Do you know it ??


Yap, its a deep fried glutinous rice flour, and it's covered with some sesame seed. It's realy popular around the world. and also this glutinous rice ball has a different name in each country. such as in my country, Indonesian called it "Onde-onde". Western called it "sesame seed ball. In Cina, it called "Jin Deui or Zhimaqiu". Malaysian Said it "Kuih Bom" and many other else. Because it's so popular, many people have made changes to the original recipe. but it was still tasty though the recipe has a lot of versions.
And today, I decided to make it. The process is soo easy. It not take a long time. And every one can make it. Here's the recipe :

The Things You Will Need, Will Be :


75 gr Mashed Potato
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
150 gr Red bean Paste (Angko)
300 gr Glutinous Rice Flour
100 gr Sesame Seed
200 ml Warm Water
5 Drops of food coloring (I used purple)

How To Make It ??

1. Mix flour, salt, sugar, and mashed potato with warm water. Stir until the dough become smooth and it's not stick to the bowl and your hand. The dough is wet enough. It's not too dry or too wet.
2. make the dough into 2 parts. Give one of them with food coloring. Stir until the color evenly.

3. Make a ball with the same size. approximately 30 gr each ball. Fill the ball with the red bean paste. Reshape into a smooth ball and rool up on the sesame seed. The sesame seed will stick on the ball. 
4. Fry it with low heat. It will be better if you fry it in the deep frying. fry with low heat until they floating. But, becareful, one of them may be crack and pop out if the oil is too hot. if the surface of the ball hardened, it mean the ball are cooked. lifting of the oil and set aside.
5. Serve while it still warm :)

Ahhhhhhh, I told you to be careful while you fry it, right ?? Do you know why I tell you that ?? Because it's happened to me. Many balls cracked, and some of them pop out, make the oil pop out from the pan. It's hurt ..
Because it's the first time I make a sesame seed ball, so the shape are not to good. and still many mistake I did while the process. And here are the Failed sesame seed ball ..
